ABOUT SARAH

School has always been Sarah’s happy place. She was a varsity tennis player with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, winning the largest academic scholarship at her school in 1995. Since then, she’s  found employment as a movie theater worker, car windshield telemarketer, library data entry person, international tutor, Shakespeare ticket saleswoman, bilingual women’s crisis support paralegal, Gifted and Talented teacher—teaching and writing throughout.

Sarah earned degrees in mathematics and education from UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education. She studied math, politics, and literature at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid in 1997 and 1998. She regularly exceeded expectations of her teachers who often referred to her as a “top student” and “able to connect ideas in complex and meaningful ways.”

Joyce Maynard selected Sarah’s essay as the winner of her 2023 short story contest. “Mom’s Dinner 1992” —the story of dinner with the parents of her brother’s recently deceased girlfriend– earned her a trip to Joyce’s home in Guatemala in January of this year.

Sarah is currently at work on a book of essays.

Sarah regularly volunteers in the Lafayette and Lamorinda community. She’s a strong supporter of young women in business and women entrepreneurs. She’s a caring and highly successful tutor of students grades 2-12, and founder of weekly women’s groups in Lafayette, California.

Sarah also has a cuddly golden retriever, Teddy, and twin boys, 14 years old, who are high achievers and work as ‘junior’ tutors. Growing a happy and successful next generation, entertaining with her stories, is how Sarah enjoys serving her community.
